A professional update

I’ve been quiet lately regarding my professional situation as I worked through a handful of things but I wanted to take a minute to share a couple details now that I can, if only to get them off my chest.

Flocker, a project I was incredibly proud to have been a part of, was officially shut down last week. The writing had been on the wall for a while but we did everything we could to make it work before finally deciding to pull the trigger and sunset the service. This was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make, knowing how many people were excited and invested in what we had built, and I know it'll sting for years to come.

During the time near the end of the project’s life, I’d been exploring opportunities outside of Flocker in case things didn’t work out as planned. To that end, I was approached by a new employer, and ultimately accepted their offer once the interview process was over. Ironically, this happened on the same day Flocker’s shut down was announced so I put in my notice.

Looking ahead, I’ll be starting in my new role at the end of this month and my family and I will eventually be moving to Seattle from Canada when life gets back to normal. We’re excited for the opportunity but also very nervous. Uprooting our entire lives and moving to a new country isn’t exactly something we have experience with.

It’s going to be incredibly hard to leave our families and friends behind but if the current state of the world has taught us anything, it’s that distance doesn’t have to be an issue.
