The evolving experience of Dark Souls 3
If there is one thing I know to expect from the Dark Souls series, it’s that nothing is ever as easy as it seems. And that’s as true as ever in the first half hour of Dark Souls 3.
It’s incredible to me that, this far into the series, From Software and creator Hidetaka Miyazaki are still able to genuinely surprise and scare Souls fans with terrifying new enemies and mechanics. It’s that constant sense of dread that’s kept me coming back over and over and it doesn’t seem to be letting up anytime soon.
Dark Souls 3 looks to take the familiar concept of getting your ass kicked over and over again but refining how exactly that happens. Often this is accomplished by removing certain frustrating elements from the previous titles and adding new, horrifying components such as monsters that somehow transform into even more disturbing versions of themselves.
